You will complete an introductory web quest to gain a better understanding into the world of William Shakespeare.

Step 3: Readers Notebook: Reflections about Mistakes

You will maintain a Readers Notebook as a place for you to write your reactions to the play and to record your assignments.

In your Readers Notebook, complete the following journal entries before reading.

  1. One of the themes in Romeo and Juliet is that decisions can have long term consequences. Complete a quick write (short journal entry) discussing w hat currently guides your decision making? Revisit at the end of the unit to write a reflective essay.
  2. Reflect on a time in your life when you made a mistake and recognized it on your own. What lesson(s) did you learn from evaluating your mistake?

Step 4: Read The Prologue

You will read the opening prologue to the drama. Next, complete the following steps.

Step 5: Understanding Shakespearean Language and Writing Style

You will copy the 14-line sonnet into your Readers Notebook.

Step 6: In your Readers Notebook answer the following questions based on your reading.

  1. What do we learn about the drama from reading the Prologue?
  2. What form of writing did Shakespeare use for the Prologue?
